Also, a big congratulations to one of GUE’s newest Instructor Interns, Nick Bowman, who completed the required “audit” for his internship this weekend. Once GUE accepts and registers a candidate with “intern status” the first step of the internship is to “audit” a fundamentals class from start to finish. It was pretty close to this exact same spot at Maple Bay that I completed this first step of my internship 2 and a half years ago. Congratulations Nick! Now the fun really begins!
Update: I would like to welcome GUE’s newest recreational fundamentals diver, Bill Golley, who came back from a cold with a vengeance to complete the final day of his Fundamentals class at Tyee! Thank you Bill for your commitment and hard work to get this completed. Your enthusiasm and motivation will be welcomed by the GUE community.
LTD is proud to announce that we are now accepting bookings for GUE Fundamentals classes! We are also very excited to welcome Lee, Jason and Grayson to the GUE family! Thank you for your hard work and positive attitudes over the last 4 days. I couldn’t have asked for better students to be apart of my IE.
So this one time, I became a GUE Instructor. This was a 2 year process and it feels fantastic to have achieved this. Huge thank you to the fantastic dive community on Vancouver Island for all your support and encouragement. A special thank you to the students who participated on my ITC and IC class (Jeff, Henry, Rob, Lee, Jason and Grayson) as well as Guy Shockey who had to put up with me watching over all his Fundamentals classes for the past 2 years and Mark Messersmith who flew all the way up from Florida to conduct the IE.
Over the past 4 days, Rob, Henry & Jeffrey were busily participating in their GUE Fundamentals class with Guy and I. We had challenging visibility at Maple Bay on the weekend but everyone really came together as a team and worked very hard to achieve their goals. Thank you everyone for all your hard work and dedication. I am looking forward to diving with all of you again in the near future! Now get out there for a fun dive!
Congratulations to Brad Harris and Francois Keen on completion of their wreck course! It was great working with you both. Thank you to Nick Bowman for his video services, all the divers who joined us on the boat and the Sea Dragon for their excellent charter services, as always!
Congratulations to Jason Brownlee on completion of his Wreck Diver Specialty certification. We brought all the pieces we have been working on together over the last two weekends and mastered the “slow is smooth, smooth is fast” concept. Excellent work Jason – way to knock it out of the park after last weekend! Big thanks to Drew Coutts for teaming up with Jason and being an excellent teammate.
Meet Victoria’s newest rescue divers, Jason Brownlee, Jeff Kosar and Karrie Hamilton! Despite the cold weather, these guys worked very hard and the ocean is a safer place with them diving in it. Congratulations everyone and thanks to Drew Coutts for his academy award winning performance as “The Victim”.
Congratulations to Jeff Kosar on completion of your Wreck Diver specialty! We had tough surface conditions yesterday but your had work and practice made for two excellently executed dives today. Big thanks to Christine and the Seadragon for two great days of boat diving, everyone who joined us on the boat and to Denis who stepped in to be Jeff’s teammate.
Congratulations to Patrick and Jeff on completion of their PADI Search & Recovery specialty this weekend. If anyone ever loses anything underwater, you know who to send looking for it. Thanks Ron DeVries for capturing their graduation dive and final scenario on camera.
I would like to welcome Kim, Brooklyn & Jane to the wonderful world of scuba diving! I had a blast diving with all 3 of you over the weekend and look forward to diving with all of you again in the future! You were presented with cold water and bad vis and everyone worked incredibly hard to overcome these obstacles. It was great to see everyone improve so much over the 4 dives. Big thank you to Sean Mantta and Drew Coutts for providing DM support and to the girls’ personal cheerleader, Lee Critchley, for his support and encouragement along with Roger, Rolo and Bria!
Congratulations to David Welch on completion of his Wreck Diver Specialty! Despite blustery surface conditions, we enjoyed 4 dives on the RivTow, Saskatchewan and Cape Breton. Our focus was dive planning and gas management as it relates to safely diving these deeper wrecks within recreational limits. David is a natural with his reel work! Thank you David for a fun filled weekend under the water, away from the snow. Thanks also to our videographers Brad, who joined us from Calgary, and Drew, who also proved comedic relief while stress testing various components of his equipment. Big thank you also to Glen, Christine and Brent with Sea Dragon charters for hosting us!
Congratulations to our almost newest Wreck Diver Specialists (sorry but Iza and Steven are technically the newest) Mike Combs and Rob Miller. We dove 3 different wrecks over the wkn, braved the subzero weather and rough surface conditions and got to enjoy awesome vis and dives! Big thanks to our videographer extraordinaire, Darren Combs and Christine Elizabeth with Sea Dragon Charters for hosting us.
Big congratulations to Iza Fontaine and Steven Kuryło on completion of your Wreck Diver Specialty course this weekend. Once we got some logistical issues behind us, we had great vis and conditions on the wrecks. I look forward to wreck diving with you both in the near future!
Congratulations to Randall Town and Darren Combs on your Wreck Diver Specialty course this weekend! We had great vis on the Saskatchewan, Riv Tow and Cape Breton. Was a blast working with you both.
Congrats to Wilson Diving’s own Denis and Mike on completion of your PADI Wreck Specialty. You both worked your butts off and made it happen!
-5 and a wetsuit but you did it Kaija! Congrats on your open water certification! Wishing you and Talis many happy dives.
Congratulations to Rob and Danielle on completion of your Advanced Open Water and Enriched Air class. We had a couple of great boat dives last night and today we got to play with a Giant Pacific Octopus out in the open… after we sent the guy with the camera away of course . Also congrats to Jeremy and Vincent on completion of their Open Water class, they got to play with a stellar sea lion today… a good day for wildlife encounters. Huge thank you to Darren and Denis for filling tanks, keeping me cafinated and filming the fun and games!
Bryan, Talis and Richard prepare for Talis’ fourth and final Open Water dive at McKenzie Bight.
